the shack
Wow.
My wife gave it to me after someone gave it to her. I read the pull-quotes on the cover. They were a bit too over the top. I almost put it down. Eugene Peterson thinks that this book will be as important as Pilgrims Progress. Puleease.
But my wife has pretty good taste and she compared it to Lewis in The Great Divorce which is still pretty high praise in our house, so I read it.
It is amazing. There are a few details I could quibble with but the fact is I came away knowing God better. I came away praising God.
If you want to read a review from a theologian that I like you can check out what Greg Boyd had to say recently.
But mainly you should just go read the book. As Greg mentions, you may not want to read it on a plane. I think that most people will cry at some point in this book. I certainly did. Sometimes because I was captured by the pathos of the story. Usually because I was confronted with some deep deficiencies in my relationship with the God who made me and loves me. I read this book slower than usually. I kept having to stop and talk to God about what I was reading. You can find out more by following the link below.
