now is the time

Here is a link to today’s reading:

 2 Corinthians 5:17-6:2

Why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow? Is a motto for many people. But God has a different plan in mind for you. God has work for you to do TODAY. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can live your life ‘someday’. This is your only life and the expiration date is unknown. Paul tells the Corinthians that they are called to be ambassadors for Christ. Just so there is no confusion he goes on to tell them when they are expected to do this. The time is NOW!

Today’s Challenge:

What are you putting off until ‘someday’? List three things that you can move from the someday category to the ‘now is the time’ category. Is there a person or a place where God needs an ambassador? Can you do that today? Continue Reading »

living the dash

Published by Ethan Magness under one month to live

Here is a link to today’s reading:

Psalm 90

We don’t think about death very often. Periodically we are forced to confront the reality of death by painful circumstances, but other than those few times, it is an easy topic to ignore. But there is wisdom that comes from a clear look at death. Just as the psalmist asks, we all need to gain a heart of wisdom as well. If you had one month to live would you change the way you live? Would the recognition of mortality transform your priorities? This month-long challenge is an invitation to seek that wisdom now.

Today’s Challenge:
In the space provided list the top five areas that would change if you had one month to live. Be honest with yourself. Is it time management, relationships or something else? How do you want to be different after this thirty day challenge? Ask God to help you number your days so that you may gain a heart of wisdom. Continue Reading »

one month to live series introduction

Published by Ethan Magness under one month to live

Well after a long break to work on some major projects offline, I am excited to be back on line for a while.  Our church just began an exciting series called One Month to Live.  It is inspired by the book of the same title by the Shook’s.  You can find out all kinds of things about their ministry and their book at this site.

For this series, we wrote a collection of short devotions linked to some longer texts.  I plan to reproduce that material with some further textual comments on my blog.  I would love to invite anyone who can to join the conversation here.

In all of these conversations our motivating question is, “How would I change my life, if I knew that I had one month to live?”
